Using the MAD-GLAD-SAD approach, determine the tone of your book. You can classify your whole book, or a portion you read this week during class. Determine first the overall tone, is it mad, glad, or sad. Then choose the word from the worksheet that best fits the tone you have chosen. Be specific about why you chose this particular word to describe your choice for tone. As always be sure to include the title of your book.

I would say that the overall tone of my book, The Dead and the Gone, would be SAD. The main character Alex is sad and mad at the moon for being pushed closer to earth and causing all of things that destroys the future he once dreamt about and for destroying his family. Throughout the book you see how he gets really angry at times and sometimes takes it out on his sisters. Also, you see all the terrible things that they have to go through just to stay alive. The word that I think the tone is, is SOLEMN. I would say it's solemn because all the things that Alex has to do just to keep his two sisters alive and the sacrifices he has to make just so they can survive. Alex also, has to take a lot more responsibility because neither of his parents are around to help them. I also chose solemn because there really isn't any really positive things that go on in their lives and Alex is always very serious throughout the whole book. This is why I think solemn is the tone of this book.
